PHILADELPHIA, April 10, 2013

Arianna Huffington
Arianna Huffington will discuss "The Brave New World of the 'New Media' at Drexel

Journalist and entrepreneur Arianna Huffington will join Drexel University on Tuesday, April 30, as the College of Arts and Sciences’ third lecturer in the annual Distinguished Lecture Series.

Joining neuroscientist David Eagleman and acclaimed author Sir Salman Rushdie on the growing list of accomplished lecturers, Huffington will explore "The Brave New World of the 'New Media': How Social Media Has Revolutionized the Communications Landscape."

The technological advances of the last few years have turned the news and entertainment worlds on their ears, shifting the balance of power away from the media giants and to consumers – and citizens – empowering them to choose and create.

Technology is having the same game-changing effect on the political world. Huffington will discuss the latest online and social media trends, including how media companies are turning content promiscuity into profits, and reveal her vision of a hybrid future where traditional media and new media become one.

The Third Annual Distinguished Lecture is free and open to the public and will take place at 6 p.m. in the Main Auditorium in the Main Building (32nd and Chestnut Streets). Tickets are required for the event. For the Drexel community, tickets can be picked up with a Drexel ID at the College of Arts and Sciences Dean's Office in MacAlister Hall - Suite 4020 (33rd and Chestnut Streets). For the general public, please contact Jennifer Yusin at jyusin@drexel.edu to be put on the will-call list. Limit of two tickets per person.

Huffington is the president and editor-in-chief of the Huffington Post Media Group and a nationally syndicated columnist. In May 2005, Huffington launched The Huffington Post, a news and blog site that is now one of the most widely read, linked to and frequently cited media brands on the Internet. In 2006 and 2011, Huffington was named to the TIME 100, TIME Magazine’s list of the world’s 100 most influential people.

Huffington is also the author of 13 books, including Fanatics and Fools: The Game Plan for Winning Back America, On Becoming Fearless...in Love, Work and Life, Right Is Wrong: How the Lunatic Fringe Hijacked America, Shredded the Constitution, and Made Us All Less Safe, and most recently, Third World America: How Our Politicians Are Abandoning the Middle Class and Betraying the American Dream. In addition, Huffington has appeared as a guest on numerous television shows, including "Charlie Rose," "Oprah," "Real Time with Bill Maher," "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart," and "The O’Reilly Factor."
