Message from the Center Director
Drexel’s Center for Mobilities Research and Policy is a national leader in the new interdisciplinary field of mobilities research, the first of its kind in the USA. The mCenter convenes students, faculty and international research networks around understanding contemporary mobility cultures, including mobile communication technologies, transport infrastructures, embodied practices, and systems of mobility ranging from urban streets to international borders. We also seek to advance the transition toward sustainable mobility systems and “smart” cities that can respond to societal challenges such as urban growth, climate change, and community health, while building civic participation and public space.
Mobilities research at the mCenter uniquely combines methods and theories from the social sciences, arts and humanities, participatory engineering, experimental design and public policy into a truly interdisciplinary approach, while engaging the University with local communities, national partners, and global networks. We are creating new theoretical perspectives and new methods for solving “real world” mobility challenges and informing public policy in order to foster mobility justice and sustainable mobility, both locally and globally.
In addition to ongoing research projects, we invite students to explore our occasional course offerings through the Department of Culture and Communication and the Program in Science, Technology and Society. We also invite regional faculty and the public to join our open events. We hold an annual Mobilities Visiting Speaker series, host conferences and symposia, and sponsor film screenings and art exhibitions. We look forward to welcoming you to our upcoming events.
