Office of Medical Student Research
The Office of Medical Student Research, which is jointly staffed through the Division of Biomedical Science Programs and the Career Development Center, facilitates students in identifying and coordinating research opportunities.
It's our goal to make it as simple as possible for students to connect with faculty members and get involved in research projects. We also help our medical students find information on summer externships, international research and award opportunities.
Drexel University College of Medicine is at the forefront of health care technology and innovation. Our faculty members participate in nationally recognized cutting-edge research right here in Philadelphia. Working alongside our faculty mentors, our students are at a distinct advantage, and we encourage them to get involved in research as early as possible. This type of hands-on experience enhances what students are learning in the classroom and makes them more appealing for residencies and other occupations in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries, should they choose those career paths.
Student Research Opportunities
Because the College of Medicine recognizes the importance of research in medical education, we've developed various medical research opportunities for students, which are designed to accommodate particular schedules and needs.
From summer programs to elective courses, we've assembled a group of research opportunities that allows every medical student at the College of Medicine to participate. Furthermore, each opportunity offers research in a myriad of subject areas.
You can learn more about these programs and courses by visiting our medical student research opportunities page.
For students who want to pursue careers as physician scientists, the College of Medicine offers the MD/PhD Program. This program is designed for a limited number of students who spend their first two years in medical school, followed by three to four years of PhD training, with their final two years at medical school. The program includes a full tuition scholarship and stipend throughout the entire program.
The MD/PhD Program trains individuals in the fundamental clinical aspects of medicine and offers advanced training in a specific field of research. Physicians with extensive research training are uniquely positioned to advance medical care and to teach innovative ways to approach medical discovery.
The goal of our office is to make getting involved with research as easy as possible for our students. We want every medical student to have the opportunity to complete research because we believe it's an invaluable part of medical education.
