$286,250 Raised During the 2007 Manuel Stamatakis Golf Classic Event

August 9, 2007

Drexel University College of Medicine is proud to announce that $286,250 was raised at this year's Manuel Stamatakis Golf Classic. The outing held July 30th at Philadelphia Country Club, drew 180 golfers and was followed by a dinner and awards reception. The money raised will benefit the Manuel N. Stamatakis Medical Education Fund, established by the College of Medicine chairman to support scholarships for academically talented medical students with a demonstrated financial hardship.

"We are thrilled with this year's turnout and grateful to the contributors whose generosity allows us to make a difference in the lives of deserving and hard working medical students," said Stamatakis.

This year's medical scholarships were awarded to third year medical students Matthew Kusulas and Christos Plakas; and fourth year students Michael Wong and Carl Allen Bernas.

"This golf tournament and the proceeds that go to a scholarship fund are profoundly important so that we can continue to attract competent, committed and qualified candidates to become our future doctors," added Stamatakis. "Thanks to everyone who has helped and supported this vitally important cause." Over the past six years, the annual Stamatakis golf outing has raised over $1.5 million.
