Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of the activity, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss strategies to increase the number of available transplantable organs and meet the needs of patients waiting for organ transplants.
  • Discuss best demonstrated practices related to identifying potential organ donors, timeliness of potential organ donor referrals, family support, and approaching families about organ donation opportunities.
  • Discuss the clinical testing used to determine brain death, variability in brain death pronouncement and how it is communicated to families.
