Joel Horwitz, PhD, is a professor in the Department of Pharmacology & Physiology at Drexel University College of Medicine. His current educational roles include serving as the co-director of the Human Disease Systems course and thread director for Pharmacology in the Foundations and Frontier curriculum for MD students. He also facilitates physiology and pharmacology simulations as well as first- and second-year case-based learning. He is particularly interested in the role of simulation in medical education as well as other active learning modalities.

Research

Prior to transitioning to full-time education in 2010, Dr. Horwitz's research aimed to understand the role of free radicals in the etiology of Parkinson’s disease and other neurodegenerative diseases.
