Anita Gupta, DO, PharmD, is a board-certified anesthesiologist and pain specialist, as well as a pharmacist. She is the recipient of numerous awards, including the prestigious AAMC Health System Learner Award.

Dr. Gupta is vice chair of the Division of Pain Medicine and Regional Anesthesiology and an associate professor of anesthesiology. She is the medical director of the University Pain Institute in Philadelphia, Pa.

She is a fellow of the Institute of Coaching at McLean/Harvard Medical School, and has completed the Wharton Total Leadership Program. She is an active GIEESC/World Health Organization member and founder of Society of Women in Medicine. Dr. Gupta is a member of the FDA's Anesthetic and Analgesic Drug Products Advisory Committee (AADPAC).

Dr. Gupta has been featured as a medical expert on CNN, Fox News, and NBC for health topics related to the treatment of pain. She has been a frequent recipient of the National Patients and Compassionate Physician Choice Award, most recently in 2015, and is the editor of top-selling textbooks by Oxford University Press, Interventional Pain Medicine and Pharmacology in Anesthesia Practice. She also completed the competitive media and medical advocacy fellowship with the Mayday Foundation in Washington, D.C.

Well versed in a variety of health topics, Dr. Gupta is called regularly to discuss current medical news. Her contributions have earned her countless awards for service, research and expertise in medicine and health. She has been an invited presenter at medical and advisory forums and won several awards related to her research at the NIH and the University of Pennsylvania. As a medical expert and national leader in medicine, Dr. Gupta has been involved in research in improving patient satisfaction in medicine.

Dr. Gupta completed her doctorate in pharmacy at Rutgers University, her medical degree from University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, and her residency in anesthesiology at Georgetown University Hospital and the National Institutes of Health. Following residency, Dr. Gupta completed a pain management fellowship from the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions and joined faculty at the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Anita Gupta is involved in pain medicine education at Drexel University College of Medicine and Hahnemann University Hospital for medical students and residents. She is also involved in a fellowship training program for regional anesthesiology and acute pain (non-ACGME accredited program).

Before joining Drexel, Dr. Gupta was appointed as faculty at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine for three years from 2008 to 2011 in the Division of Pain Medicine and Anesthesiology.

Dr. Gupta is involved in research related to pain medicine and anesthesiology and is actively participating in writing articles, reviews and book chapters. She has been a presenter at several anesthesiology forums and won several research awards from her research at the National Institutes of Health.

Dr. Gupta continues to lead instrumental research efforts that are advancing the fields of pain medicine, anesthesiology and innovative medical technology. She has published several top-selling books, earned numerous recognitions for her research and has been an invited presenter at medical and advisory forums. Dr. Gupta serves as a special government employee of the FDA and is a fellow of the Institute of Coaching at McLean/Harvard Medical School.
