About the MD Program Diversity in Medical Education

The College of Medicine is firmly committed to producing a diverse population of physicians. Working cooperatively, the Office of Student Affairs staff and the Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion staff provide personal and academic support and a positive learning environment to help minority students realize their professional goals. Through these efforts, the College of Medicine has become a historical leader in the number of minority medical students it trains.

In accordance with this institution's historic commitment, women, students interested in careers as generalist physicians, Pennsylvania residents, and those who come from populations underrepresented in medicine are particularly encouraged to apply. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

Drexel medical students at the annual White Coat Ceremony.

The Institute for Women's Health and Leadership is the home of the Woman One Award and Scholarship Fund. Woman One has the dual purpose of raising medical scholarships for talented underrepresented students who intend to serve disadvantaged communities and honoring annually an exceptional leader. Woman One honorees have included Robert Wood Johnson Foundation President and CEO Risa Lavizzo-Mourey and Olympic Gold Medalist Dawn Staley. Woman One continues to connect the College of Medicine to the greater Philadelphia community by engaging businesses and foundations in supporting Drexel's diversity initiatives. The Scholarship Fund provides $80,000 to each Woman One Scholar over the course of four years of medical school.
