Drexel University College of Medicine is seeking highly motivated current high school juniors and sophomores who are enrolled in an academic curriculum and demonstrate strong interest in neuroscience topics and research. Neuroscience Camp offers students opportunities to:
- Learn about the brain and spinal cord from award-winning faculty and their graduate students.
- Experience live brain activity recordings.
- Participate in lectures on:
- Brain and spinal cord anatomy
- Cellular neuroscience
- Sensory processing
- Comparative neuroanatomy
- Brain machine interfacing
- Take a guided tour behind the scenes at the Academy of Natural Sciences with faculty experts in neuroanatomy.
The Neuroscience Camp features hands-on experience during a lab project that will include slide mounting, tissue staining and microscopy imaging and analysis. Participants will also receive instruction in literature searching and project presentation.
At the end of camp, participants will earn a certificate of completion.
$1,500 - includes lunch voucher and field trip fees
Participants are responsible for their own transportation and housing. Students must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of Drexel University College of Medicine during the full term of the program. The program does not provide housing. Residents of Philadelphia and its immediate Pennsylvania and New Jersey suburbs will be given preference; if you do not reside in this area but can make your own arrangements for housing (e.g., with a relative) please provide your local address when you submit your application.
What will a typical day be like?
10 a.m. – noon
Morning conference: Lecture presented by a Drexel University College of Medicine faculty member or senior graduate student.
Noon – 1 p.m.
Lunch: Lunch voucher provided to enjoy our Queen Lane Café.
1 – 4 p.m.
Laboratory project: Students will learn common neuroscience laboratory procedures and will work on small group lab projects together.
