Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory
The Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory (MDL) at Drexel University College of Medicine is a College of American Pathologists (CAP) accredited and CLIA certified laboratory housed in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine that is focused on diagnosis, education, and clinical research. The Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory also serves as a rotation site for residents and fellows to become familiar with the basic molecular biological techniques and theory used in molecular diagnostics. The laboratory features a climate of collegial interactions, making it mutually beneficial for all participants.
The Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory offers molecular tests that predict sensitivity to chemotherapeutic agents and aid in the management of patients with neoplastic disorders, especially lung and colon adenocarcinomas. In addition, the Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory offers IGH and TCR clonality testing that aid in the diagnosis of B-cell and T-cell lymphomas.
The resources available to researchers include an ABI 3130 Genetic Analyzer (capillary electrophoresis) and a 7500 real-time PCR machine. In addition, DNA/RNA extraction services are available.
