Curriculum

Assessment and Evaluation

The Division of Medical Education, Assessment and Evaluation promotes comprehensive, evidence-based educational assessment and programmatic evaluation to support Drexel University College of Medicine’s undergraduate medical education curriculum (UGME) and faculty. Our work supports student academic progress and enhances educational quality to ensure physician competency development, in accordance with licensing and accreditation standards.

Assessment. The division oversees assessment that supports the mission of the College of Medicine, including but not limited to collecting and maintaining a centralized, comprehensive record of academic data related to the preclinical and clinical phases of the curriculum. We administer course and subject-specific examinations. We collect and monitor clerkship assessments and practices. We work in collaboration with the Office of Student Affairs to ensure students are receiving timely academic support and tutoring, or remediation, as necessary. The office maintains USMLE scores and is a liaison with the national USMLE board, as well as the AAMC CurrMIT manager for the College of Medicine. We act as an educational resource for faculty and curriculum committees in decision-making and in medical education research.

Evaluation. The division provides a strategic direction for curriculum evaluation, collecting data for quality improvement and comparing it to national trends in medical education. We collect student feedback about the medical school experience, courses and clerkships, and report this data to leadership committees in order to continuously improve the curriculum. We conduct educational research that advances our understanding of medical education assessment and evaluation.
