Faculty search underway: We are looking for talented researcher-educators to join our faculty.
The Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology at Drexel University College of Medicine is in a period of growth and development. There are currently eleven faculty members in the department, including Dr. Jane Azizkhan-Clifford who assumed the position of chair on September 1, 2000. Drexel University College of Medicine has committed generous resources to recruit new faculty members in order to build a first-rate research department. There will be three major research areas in the Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology. A major focus of this department will be in the area of cell cycle/proliferation control, which is central to disease states including cancer, arthritis, heart disease, autoimmunity, and developmental anomalies. Biochemical research in this area will involve studies of DNA replication, transcription/translation control, signal transduction, and protein biochemistry. A second area will be proteomics, the identification of new genes and determination of their function, particularly focused on genes that have been revealed by the Human Genome Initiative. The third area to be developed is structural biology. The development of structural biology will be in the framework of growth control and proteomics initiatives, in such a way as to provide a milieu for the marriage of structure and function studies. This initiative will be combined with the research initiative at Drexel in Nanotechnology to address issues of gene expression, signal transduction and structure.
