BS/MS Student Ziyin Huang Awarded Multiple Scholarships

Ziyin HuangZiyin Huang is the recipient of a handful of scholarships this past academic year from both external organizations and Drexel University. As a BS/MS student, Ziyin conducts research in Professor Christopher Li’s Soft Materials Research Group, where he is investigating solid polymer electrolyte for lithium ion batteries. He was also most recently president of Material Advantage, the student materials professional organization for four professional societies, among other leadership positions at Drexel.

Following is a round-up of Ziyin's recent awards:

  • The International Association of Plastics Distribution (IAPD) Foundation awarded Ziyin a $4,500 scholarship. The award is given to students majoring in polymer sciences who exhibit academic achievement, extracurricular activities, and financial need.
  • SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, awarded Ziyin an Optics and Photonics Education Scholarship.
  • At Drexel University’s Student Life Awards ceremony on May 14, Ziyin was presented with the Josiah P. Ryder General Scholarship. This award is given to an undergraduate engineering student who exhibits academic excellence and has participated in extracurricular activities.
  • At the Delaware Valley Engineers Week Award luncheon on February 20, Ziyin received the Walter G. Neal, Jr. Memorial Scholarship.
  • Ziyin was awarded the NACE Philadelphia Section Liberty Bell Academic Scholarship in the amount of $2,000 in February. This scholarship was created to recognize outstanding students within the boundaries of the NACE Philadelphia Section who are interested in pursuing a career in the field of science and/or engineering. The scholarship is awarded annually and the funding is provided by the NACE Philadelphia Section corrosion course.
  • The ASM Materials Education Foundation selected Ziyin to receive the 2014 John M. Haniak Scholarship. The John M. Haniak Scholarship provides $1,500 towards educational expenses for one academic year and is awarded to an outstanding undergraduate student at the junior or senior level who demonstrates exemplary academic and personal achievements, interest, and potential in metallurgy or materials science and engineering, as well as financial need. The scholarship was established by the family of Mr. Haniak to honor his interest in education and his involvement in and commitment to ASM International. In addition to the $1,500 award, Ziyin was awarded up to $500 towards expenses to attend the 2014 Materials Science & Technology (MS&T) Conference held October 13-16, 2014 in Pittsburgh, PA. 
  • In addition to the $500 from ASM to attend MS&T, Ziyin received a TMS Student Travel Grant in the amount of $250 to attend the conference.
