Partnering with the Lindy Center
At Drexel University, the Lindy Center for Civic Engagement’s community partnerships are integral to meeting the learning goals and civic engagement outcomes for the educational mission of the University. Beyond that, we seek to consistently improve the quality and depth of Drexel University’s impact on Philadelphia. The Lindy Center intentionally partners with community non-profits, public and private schools, and local government agencies to provide over 150 unique civic engagement opportunities each year to for students, faculty, and staff.
Together as partners, we can create an impact that benefits the quality of life for all Philadelphians!
The Lindy Center coordinates an array of services and resources for community organizations and schools. Our goal is to work collaboratively to increase the capacity of organizations and to develop learning opportunities for our students.
The Lindy Center for Civic Engagement primarily partners with CBOs that:
Can help us to promote the ideals of social responsibility, public service and/or civic engagement
Are non-profit organizations, community/recreation centers, or schools
Have a well defined mission statement or purpose
Are located in the Philadelphia region, particularly in West Philadelphia along the Lancaster Avenue Corridor
Have their own offices or a well defined space where our students will serve (such as a community center, park, school, etc.)
Offer meaningful, positive experiences—both educational and social—that will enhance the education of our students and promote our mission
Provide a unique experience for student involvement
Can provide a contact person to serve as the liaison between the Lindy Center and your organization
Every partnership and volunteer need is different. We strongly encourage community organizations and schools that are interested in partnering with the Lindy Center to contact us directly to set up an initial meeting before completing any of the requests for partnership, volunteers, resources, or funding. The Lindy Center serves as the first point of contact to connect you to various Drexel resources and services.
What does partnership mean to the Lindy Center?
The mission and vision of the Lindy Center is to enrich the quality of life for the people of the Philadelphia area and to provide an enhanced education to Drexel students. We cannot do this alone. Community based organizations are an integral part of both our mission and our vision. We intentionally partner with organizations to benefit their clients and to expand educational opportunities for our students.
So partnership in this case means there are mutual benefits from our work together. You are not simply getting “warm bodies”. You are getting students that are participating with your organization as service-learners. Their academic and personal development is central to why they are working with you. In addition, they are meeting your defined needs.
