Introduction to Course Registration
Students will have two opportunities to register for classes in advance of the Fall term. First, a brief 40-hour “priority” registration period will be conducted well in advance of the beginning of the term. This period will afford upper-level students the opportunity to register based on need, i.e., those students with comparatively less time in which to complete graduation requirements (3Ls) will be given first access to courses. Registration times will be assigned by class, with a period of forty hours in which to register for desired courses.
Priority registration for 3rd year students will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, July 7, 2008 and end at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, July 8, 2008. Online registration for 2nd year students will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 and end at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, July 10, 2008.
Students will have a second opportunity to register or make course changes during “open” registration, which begins one week in advance of the start of classes and ends on Sunday of the second week of classes. During this period, all upper-level students, irrespective of class year, can drop or add courses as long as space is available.
Open registration for all upper-level students will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, August 18, 2008 and end at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, August 31, 2008. Students must obtain permission from Dean Toth to make any schedule adjustments after the add/drop period has ended. Requests will only be granted for good cause. Dropping a course after the second week of classes is considered a Withdrawal and will result in a grade of “W.” Students who fall below 9 total credits may no longer be eligible for scholarships or financial aid.
For pedagogical and space reasons, most courses have a limited enrollment size. For example, workshop or seminar courses, which generally require more faculty-student interaction, are intentionally limited to approximately 16 students. At the same time, even courses with a much higher faculty-to-student ratio may have a limit imposed by the physical classroom space. The implication for course registration is that student demand for a given course may exceed its enrollment limit. Banner will automatically close a course once its enrollment limit is reached. Therefore, students should register as soon as possible within scheduled registration periods.
In advance of registration, students are invited to attend (or view online) any general advising presentations offered as well as consult with their assigned faculty advisor. Additionally, rising 3L students may want to schedule an appointment with Dean Toth and complete a Program Progress Review (http://www.drexel.edu/law/PDFs/osa-PPR-Instructions.pdf) to ensure that all requirements are being satisfied in preparation for May graduation.
Finally, the following individuals are available to discuss aspects (as noted) of the course planning and registration process:
Assistant Dean Mark J. Toth (mark.toth@drexel.edu): registration process; program requirements; academic advising
Ms. Danielle Lewis (lawstuaf@drexel.edu): waitlist and course registration assistance
Associate Dean Dan Filler (daniel.m.filler@drexel.edu): program requirements; permissions; academic advising
Faculty Advisor: academic and personal advising
