Two Alums Help Gain Acquittals for Occupy Philadelphia Protestors

March 07, 2013

Twelve Occupy Philadelphia protesters were acquitted of conspiracy and defiant trespass charges, with help from law school alums Mike Lee and Leo Mulvihill, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported on March 6.

Lee, Class of 2009, and Mulvihill, Class of 2010, were among seven attorneys providing pro bono representation to the protestors who had staged a sit-in at a Wells Fargo Bank branch in Center City in 2011. The sit-in focused on Wells Fargo’s home foreclosures in black neighborhoods, which the protesters said represented “racist predatory lending” practices by the bank.

Although a municipal court judge convicted the protestors of trespass in 2012, they exercised their right under Philadelphia court rules to seek a jury trial.

Lee and Mulvihill joined attorney Marni Snyder and veteran criminal and civil rights advocates Lawrence S. Krasner, Paul J. Hetznecker, Jonathan Feinberg and Michael L. Coard on the defense team.
