2L Takes Second Place Honors in Prestigious Writing Competition

Trevor Larkin, Class of 2017

September 15, 2015

Trevor Larkin, a 2L, won Second Place honors in the Milani Writing Competition, jointly sponsored by the Mercer University School of Law and the American Bar Association Commission on Disability Rights.

Named for the late legal scholar Adam Milani, the competition focuses on disability law and its applications in civil rights, education and employment.

Larkin’s brief argued on behalf of a hypothetical defendant employer facing a disability discrimination claim under the Americans with Disabilities Act.  In his brief, Larkin argued that the plaintiff’s proposed accommodations for multiple-chemical sensitivity, allegedly triggered by workplace irritants, were unreasonable or would impose an undue hardship on the defendant employer.

Originally written as an assignment in Larkin’s Legal Methods II class in the spring, the brief so impressed Professor Deborah Gordon that she chose it for submission to the exclusive competition.
