Professor David S. Cohen and alumna Krysten Connon, ’12, testified at a U.S. Senate Congressional Briefing on abortion clinic violence on July 16.

The authors of “Living in the Crosshairs: The Untold Stories of Anti-Abortion Terrorism,” Cohen and Connon joined reproductive health care advocates at a discussion at the U.S. Capitol.

The event coincided with the one-year anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court ruling in McCullen v. Coakley, which found that a Massachusetts law requiring a 35-foot buffer zone around abortion facilities violated protesters’ First Amendment rights.

Cohen and Connon’s book describes tactics that extremists use to intimidate abortion providers, which include posting their images and home addresses on the Internet, following their children to school and making explicit death threats. The book was showcased in TIME magazine on July 16.

The briefing was organized by the National Abortion Federation and Planned Parenthood and sponsored by U.S. Sen. Barbara Boxer of California and U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut.
