Choosing
Drexel Law was not an easy decision for me. I had lived in Florida
all of my life and I was ready to move on to the next stage.
Since I wanted to leave Florida and I was going to be so far
away from home, I wanted to be in a supportive environment where
I could thrive and I was not just another number. Likewise, I
wanted to ensure that I would receive the highest quality of
education in a more intimate environment.
One of my biggest concerns was whether the professors at Drexel would be as
qualified as the professors at the other schools I had been accepted to. I wasn't
quite sure how to deal with this until I met with my faculty advisor at the University
of Florida. My advisor, who was also a law professor and an attorney, decided
to go online and compare the Drexel faculty to the faculty at the other law schools
I had been accepted to. After reviewing their academic backgrounds and achievements,
we were both really impressed by the credentials of Drexel's faculty. They all
had law degrees from top schools - Harvard, NYU and Columbia were just a few
I remember. Some were coming straight from practice, while others had years of
teaching and scholarship. The common thread was that they all probably could
have taught anywhere - but chose Drexel. After seeing the impressive credentials
of Drexel's faculty, he was convinced that Drexel was the right choice for me.
I still wasn’t completely convinced. So not long after my meeting with my law
advisor, I decided to go to Philadelphia for Drexel’s Accepted Students Day to
make sure that Drexel was in fact the right choice for me. As soon as I walked
through the door I saw the Dean of Admissions Helen Albertson-Ploucha. I had
met Helen when she went to the University of Florida to recruit for Drexel. She
greeted me by name, asked me about my flight and about how I liked Philadelphia
so far. When I walked through the door and she remembered who I was and where
I was from, I was sold. No other school that I had visited had gone through the
lengths to make me feel so welcome and known. After attending Accepted Students
Day and talking to my advisor about the faculty at Drexel, I knew that Drexel
was the right choice for me. |
