Placing Materials on Reserve

Putting Print and Electronic Material on Reserve

Overview/Guidelines

The reserve system supports instruction by providing access to materials needed by students for current courses. Please follow these guidelines:

Submitting Requests/Materials for Reserve

When placing materials on reserve, please provide complete information:

Submit your list of reserve items before the term starts.

In order to ensure that we have library-owned items on reserve for the beginning of the term, please request them 4 weeks before they are needed in case they are in use by another patron.  Please submit copies of personal materials 2 weeks before the term starts to allow for the heavier volume of incoming requests.  Materials submitted after this deadline will be processed as quickly as possible.

Information for Catalog

Reserve materials may be searched on the Course Reserves page of the Law Library website by the course number, course name, or instructor's name.

Personal copies

Please put your name in each item. A barcode and small markings will be placed on the outside of the books and other materials. Anti-theft tape will be placed inside the book. The law library will put forth its best effort to prevent theft and mutilation of personal copies, but we are not responsible for loss or damage of personal copies.

Picking up "personal copy" items.

At the end of the term instructors will be notified via email to pick up personal copies (personal items may be picked up at any time during the term).  Items not picked up in 2 weeks will be placed in your mailbox.

Electronic Reserve

Please observe the following guidelines when submitting materials to be placed on electronic reserve:

Materials must be renewed

If you plan to use your course reserves for the next term, please renew them.

To order a title the library does not own:

Please plan ahead and order titles two months in advance, as orders may take 4-6 weeks for delivery, and the item must be cataloged after arrival. Even a "rush" order may take anywhere from a week to 4-6 weeks, depending on availability.  In order to speed up the process, please include as complete a bibliographic reference as possible.
