To
complete the requirements for the Business and
Entrepreneurship Law Concentration, a student must complete a practical learning
experience related to business law and transactional lawyering.
One option for satisfying this requirement is to complete an
approved co-op placement. Many of the co-op opportunities offered
by the Drexel Law
Co-op Program put students into the role of
a transactional lawyer, whether in closing a real estate financing,
working with a start-up non-profit corporation or assisting in
a mega-merger or IPO. These placements are with law firms, corporations
and other business entities, investment firms and governmental
bodies. They span the range of practice settings for lawyers
interested in the unique challenges of representing an enterprise.
In
collaboration with the Drexel Law Co-op Program, the Business and Entrepreneurship Law Program has developed a select group
of co-op placements specifically for students pursuing the concentration.
These placements range from working with the entrepreneurial
business practice group at a leading national law firm based
in Philadelphia, to assisting the general counsel of a multi-billion
dollar private equity fund manager, to a securities law assignment
at a major investment advisory organization, to placements with
government regulators. These placements are designed for students
entering their third year of study who have completed the core
courses in the concentration’s curriculum. They often require
a minimum GPA or other qualification.
Whether
students choose to pursue one of these selected co-ops or are
exploring transactional practice in one of the other co-op placements
offered by the Drexel Law Co-op Program, members of the program's
faculty, in collaboration with the Co-op Program faculty, work
with the students to support them in their placements and to
provide them the educational resources needed to make the most
of their experience in the field.
