Philadelphia. Steeped
in history.
The nation's fifth largest city. Philadelphia is full of firsts
in the country - the first zoo, first hospital, first theater.
The heart of commerce and industry in Philadelphia is Center
City - and also the location of more than 15,000 practicing
lawyers and 16 Fortune 500 company headquarters. West
Philadelphia is home to the Drexel University Earle
Mack School of Law.
But
Philadelphia
is a
city of
neighborhoods,
too, each with its own identity, culture and mix of people that
enhance the fabric of life here. A city that
is as rich in history as it is in diversity.
There are countless restaurants of
all kinds, shops, bookstores - and a vibrant nightlife abounds:
South Street, Walnut Street, Rittenhouse Square, Broad Street,
Spruce Street. Fairmount
Park, the largest municipal park in the U.S.,
permits visitors to walk, jog or rollerblade on a pleasant
bike path
that runs
along
the
winding
Schuylkill
River
all the
way
to Valley
Forge National Park and beyond.
From
a cultural standpoint, Philadelphia abounds in the arts: music,
dance, theater, opera, galleries - the list goes on and
on. Not only is Philadelphia home to the Philadelphia
Art Museum which boasts one of the finest
collections of paintings and sculpture found anywhere in the
world, our fair city hosts virtually all
well-known performers, musical acts of every genre, and traveling
acts such as Circ Du Soliel who perform to sold-out houses.
Much
of Drexel’s energy comes from the fact that it is right
in the heart of a vital city, a city of neighborhoods,
where you can live within walking distance of work or the university,
or live on a farm and ride to school on the extensive
regional transportation system (SEPTA). Sharing University
City with the University of Pennsylvania, the number and
diversity of lectures and symposia, museums, concerts, plays,
dance, seminars, movies, conferences, and restaurants within
walking
distance from Drexel's main campus would be hard to duplicate
anywhere.
Philadelphia
is also a big sports town with serious sports fans. Philly
is host to
numerous world-class sports teams. The Army-Navy game is held
here bi-yearly, competitive Olympic trials routinely come to
Philadelphia, and top-notch stadiums and playing fields provide
the best in live sports entertainment for fans. Even within Drexel’s
own borders, a first-class gym and
fitness center and several
turf fields are open to all Drexel students.
Drexel is
a university on
the move! Now into
the second year of the implementation phase of the academic
strategic
plan, and with many impressive outcomes already achieved, Drexel
has 5 new academic buildings planned, with three already scheduled
for groundbreaking in 2008. When you come to school at Drexel
Law, you will not just be studying. While attaining your
legal degree at Drexel, you will be connected to this vibrant
city where we hope you will learn, work
and live.
