Drexel
College of Law: Key Points
- The American Bar Association approved provisional accreditation
less than 18 months after the College of Law welcomed 181 first-year
law students who make up the Class of 2009 in August, 2006.
- The College of Law gives students opportunities to put
the concepts and theories learned in the classroom into practice
through co-op placements at more than 95 law firms, companies,
public-interest organizations, government agencies and
judicial
offices in the Philadelphia area.
- More than 100 second-year
law students currently spend 20 hours each week in co-op
placements supervised both
by practicing
attorneys and College of Law faculty.
- This approach addresses concerns about legal education
highlighted in a 2007 study by the Carnegie Foundation for
the Advancement
of Teaching, which recommended giving law students better
preparation for the ethical and practical issues they will
confront after
graduation.
- Each student at the Drexel College of Law, prior to graduation,
must complete a minimum of 50 hours of pro bono work on behalf
of indigent clients or organizations that serve them.
