ABA Journal Highlights Professor Karl Okamoto’s LawMeets Innovations

December 20, 2012

The novel massive open online course Professor Karl Okamoto launched this fall continues to receive press coverage, with the ABA Journal publishing an article on the subject in the January 2013 issue.

The article credits Okamoto with creating a “virtual sandbox for law students to learn through real-world experiences,” expanding on the in-person transactional lawyering competitions he’d previously launched to offering the online course, in which students upload videos of themselves responding to client-based legal scenarios.

Cornell Law School student Mystyc Metrik, one of 800 students from 75 law schools who took part in a class on mergers and acquisitions – along with associates at two major firms – described the experience as “really excellent” and noted the value of learning by observing peers' performance.

Okamoto, who directs the school’s Business and Entrepreneurial Law Program, has received extensive media attention for his ground-breaking approach to teaching transactional law in publications including U.S. News & World Report and the National Law Journal.
