Carl "Tobey" Oxholm III Public Interest Colloquium

Thursday, October 13, 2016

5:30 PM-12:00 AM

The 1st Annual Carl "Tobey" Oxholm III Public Interest Colloquium will feature a keynote on the Law and Public Service by Philadelphia City Solicitor Sozi Pedro Tulante, who has a distinguished career in public service.

Appointed by Mayor Jim Kenney and confirmed by the City Council in February 2016, Mr. Tulante spent five years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Philadelphia, where he represented the government in criminal investigations and prosecutions.  Before joining government service, he was a partner at Hangley Aronchick Segal Pudlin & Schiller, where he concentrated in commercial litigation and pro bono matters, including representing a detainee in Guantanamo Bay in Cuba. After graduating cum laude from Harvard Law School, Mr. Tulante clerked for the late Hon. Reginald C. Lindsay of the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts.  He is a graduate of Philadelphia's public schools who came to the U.S. from Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of Congo) in 1983 as a political refugee with his parents.

This event will celebrate a generous gift from Carl "Tobey" Oxholm, a former Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Drexel University and former Chief Deputy City Solicitor who was instrumental in launching the Kline School of Law in 2006 with a deep commitment to public service.  His $200,000 gift will support an annual fellowship to allow a Kline student to spend the summer working in the City Solicitor's Office.
