| Sonja’s Legacy: An Art Exhibit |
| The exhibit Sonja’s Legacy featured the colorful paintings and skillful drawings created by Sonja Fischerova, a young girl from Prague, while imprisoned in the Terezin Concentration Camp from 1942-44. She, her mother and sister, and later her Bauhaus-schooled art teacher Friedl Dicker-Brandeis, were deported to Auschwitz and killed by the Nazis. Drexel Professor Emeritus of Electrical Engineering, Robert Fischl, who knew his cousin Sonja Fischerova while growing up, has assembled this exhibition together with surviving family members. An accompanying exhibit of items from the Drexel Library collection, on the themes of art, children, and the Holocaust, was prepared by Alison Lewis, Humanities and Social Sciences Librarian. In addition, Drexel Archivist Stephen Janick gathered material for display on Drexel activities related to the Holocaust. Opening day events included a lecture by Professor Robert Fischl followed by a gallery tour and reception. | ||
