What is Feather by EarthLink?
Feather is an open wireless network available throughout Philadelphia (coverage map). Users can connect to it while waiting for a bus or train, while riding on a bus or train through the city, and in public spaces throughout the coverage area etc.
How much wireless time is provided?
Feather provides 5 hours per month of wireless access. That is a limited amount of time and should be used for transitions away from the drexel campuses where dragonfly is not available. When you are no longer using Feather, you must remember to LOG OFF the Feather wireless network so that you do not waste your monthly allotment of time. Time cannot be refunded (either by EarthLink or Drexel).
At the expiration of your 5 hours per month, the next time you attempt to connect, EarthLink will prompt you to either sign up for a fee for additional hours, or wait until the beginning of the next month.
What Feather by EarthLink is NOT?
Feather is not a substitute for your ISP. Feather should not be used in place of Dragonfly, Drexel’s wireless network, on campus. Dragonfly is a much stronger wireless network and is not time restricted.
Feather is an open, unencrypted wireless network. While the sign up page is web secure with https the wireless network itself does not require an encryption key. If you have security concerns while using Feather by EarthLink, we recommend you download and use Drexel’s Cisco VPN client during your connection time.
The VPN client is available at http://www.drexel.edu/irt/services/comp_mark/software.html . More information regarding using the VPN client can be found,
