What is Microsoft Exchange Labs and Hotmail?

Microsoft offers two email choices for students: Exchange Labs and Hotmail.  Both email services use Windows Live authentication, which also connects you to SkyDrive, Calendars, Live Messenger, Spaces, and other services.

Exchange Labs is a next-generation email provider. Exchange Labs provides students with a 5GB Exchange email inbox, a calendar, and shared contacts.  It also provides security from internal and external threats using antivirus and anti-spam protection, filtering options, Windows Live ID authentication, Outlook Web Access, POP and IMAP client support, and a 20MB limit per message.

Now, Drexel students will be able to take advantage of Exchange on the web, using Outlook, or with a smartphone using ActiveSync.

Hotmail offers many of the same features as Exchange Labs, including virus scanning, 5GB of storage, tools to get rid of junk email and notifications of suspicious emails, an easy-to-use interface similar to Outlook’s, a reading pane, mobile access to email, and seamless integration with Windows Live. Hotmail also offers the ability to search your email.
