Respondus

Drexel has licenses for several Respondus products. These products allow you to easily import quiz questions and answers into Learn, secure the online testing environment and verify test taker identity.

Respondus LockDown Browser

The Respondus LockDown Browser is a custom browser that locks down the end users’ computers while taking a test within Learn. Students are locked into the assessment and are unable to print, copy, open other browser windows, or access other applications.

Students will need to download, install, and launch Respondus LockDown Browser on their own computers when accessing an exam that has been set up with the Respondus LockDown Browser requirement.  They should also make sure they are running the most up-to-date version of the software before starting any LockDown Browser exam; updates can be performed from the Information menu within the software.  Students may also need to adjust their screen resolution and screen scaling to ensure the exam displays correctly.  Respondus recommends a screen resolution no higher than 1920x1080 with screen scaling between 100%-125%; instructions for Windows and Mac OS.  Higher screen resolutions may require higher screen scaling.

Instructors planning on using LockDown Browser may also want to configure a practice test in their courses for students to test their ability to run the software and to troubleshoot any issues that may arise during an actual exam, such as not having the appropriate screen resolution as described above.

Respondus Monitor

Respondus Monitor is an additional feature for a test that has LockDown Browser enabled. This allows faculty to enable several features for a test, including:

  • Take a picture of the student and the student's ID
  • Environment check
  • Additional instructions

Once a test is complete, certain activities in the recorded video will be flagged and faculty can review them. We strongly encourage users set up a preview test to ensure that all technology is functioning properly.

Respondus 4.0

The software, including license, is available for download from the Content Collection within Learn (from the Tools page of the base navigation). From the Content Collection, go to Institution Content (on the left-hand side) > Software> Respondus.  A more detailed set of installation directions is available.

Respondus 4.0 is a powerful tool for creating and managing exams that can be printed to paper or published directly to Drexel Learn. Users build test questions and exams in an easy-to-use interface on their computer. These exams can then be published to multiple sections in Blackboard Learn or printed for in-class delivery.

Important points of note:

  • Respondus is currently available only for Windows users.
  • You will need to open the “README_RespondusLicenseInfo” to enter the licensing information when prompted.
  • You will also need to follow the instructions in the “README_SP11Patch” file so that Respondus is compatible with Learn. You will be downloading the “Campus-wide Version” of the patch from the Respondus site.

Respondus Test Bank Network

The Respondus Test Bank Network contains over 1500 test banks for the leading textbooks in higher education. The test banks are in Respondus format and can be downloaded for free by instructors who are using a participating textbook. The Test Bank Network is accessed through the Respondus.com website.
