Recording Audio in PowerPoint

Students are sometimes tasked with recording audio in PowerPoint for class presentations. You will find instructions below on how to do this for two particular version of PowerPoint. Be sure to follow both the Recording Audio as well as the Formatting Audio steps. If your version is not listed, you can search within the Office Support site for "record audio" in the PowerPoint documentation.

How to insert sound into your PowerPoint presentation [Video]

Recording Audio

  1. Click on the Insert tab
  2. Click on the Audio dropdown and select Record Audio
  3. Click on the record button (red circle) to start recording for that particular slide
  4. Click the OK button to stop recording

Formatting Audio

  1. Select the Audio icon on the slide
  2. Click on the Playback tab under Audio Tools
  3. Next to Start select Automatically
  4. Check the box next to Hide During Show
