Drexel Learn Discussion Board
Discussion boards allow members of the class to communicate asynchronously with one another.
A discussion board contains several forums created by the course instructor to organize conversation topics. Within each forum, instructors and students (if they are allowed) create threads. A thread includes the original post and all of its replies.
The main discussion board page provides a global view of all forums, as well as how many total posts, unread posts and total participants there are for each forum.
You can collect messages onto one page to facilitate review. You can also “flag” important posts and allow for peer rating of responses.
You may also grade forums and determine how many posts need to be created in a forum before the “Needs Grading” prompt appears in the Grade Center.
If you copy and paste from Word into Learn, be sure to delete any blank lines from your post, including ones at the bottom of your post. This will ensure that any code that might cause issues will be removed. To avoid this issue, you may:
- Compose your message directly in the content editor
- Use a plain text editor, such as Notepad PC) or TextEdit (Mac) and then copy and paste your content
- Save your Word document as a *.txt file and then copy and paste your content.
If you attach a file to your discussion post, please make sure that the file has no special characters or spaces in the filename. The best practice is to use only alphanumeric characters.
