Drexel Learn Assignments

Adding an assignment to a content area will create a secure location for students to submit work for a course assignment. Instructors use the Grade Center to view, grade and give confidential feedback to student-submitted work.

You determine how many times a student or a group of students may submit their work for evaluation. You have the opportunity to edit the submission online/make comments as well as provide overall feedback. Any grades entered in the Grade Assignment window are automatically entered into the Grade Center; in the instance of a group submission, grading the group’s paper automatically completes the grade for each member of that group.

To create an assignment, you must be in a content area. At the top, hover over the Assessments button, and the third option is Assignment. You may either cut and paste the instructions from the syllabus into the instructions area or state “refer to attached” and attach a file containing the instructions/supplementary assignment materials.

Turnitin is another type of assignment that performs plagiarism checking. This option is also available under the Assessments button.

Sometimes a student will attach an incorrect document to his/her assignment. You have option on how to handle a student resubmitting an assignment. In the Grade Center, select the cell that contains the submission, click on the options icon, and select View Grade Details. Then you may:

  • Select Clear Attempt. This will clear the attempt from the database. There will be no record maintained of a submission.
  • Select Ignore Attempt. This will keep the original submission, but will set the submission "counter" back to 0, allowing the student to submit once more.
  • Select Allow Additional Attempt. This will keep the submission "counter" at 1 (or whatever the maximum number of attempts was), but will allow one more submission to take place.

Any files attached to an assignment cannot have special characters or spaces in the filename. The best practice is to use only alphanumeric characters.
