Lee Smith Traveling Fellowship 2010

WHAT:  An Award that will offset the costs for up to three (3) Drexel University graduate students to attend a conference or make a scholarly visit to Asia, with a preference for trips to China.  The award winners will be designated the “Lee Smith Fellows for 2010.”  Upon return, the Lee Smith Fellows will be asked to give a talk on their trip and their experiences in Asia.

ELIGIBILITY:  Full-time graduate student standing in any of the departments, schools, or colleges of Drexel University.

CRITERIA FOR SELECTION:  The Committee will read all applications and choose the 2010 Lee Smith Fellow based on the proposed purposes of the trip.  Highest priority will be given to those who are presenting a scholarly paper at a conference or symposium.  Industry visits, visits to universities, seminars and other such activities will also be regarded favorably by the Committee, especially if the visits are in addition to the conference presentation.  The trip must be concluded by December 31, 2010.

APPLICATION PROCESS:  The application will consist of a letter to the Committee Chair describing in some detail what the purpose of the trip will be.  A current curriculum vitae, an endorsement letter from the student’s faculty advisor, and an estimated budget for the trip, including the amount requested for the Fellowship, should be included as part of the package.

DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION:  Application material must be received by January 31, 2010.

NOTIFICATION:  Fellows will be notified by February 19, 2010.
