International Travel Awards (ITA) Procedures

Application Requirements

A complete application includes the original copies of the following:

  1. the ITA application form and travel budget;
  2. an application statement;
  3. an official invitation or notification of participation from the conference* ;
  4. a recommendation letter and signature of your department head or director

Applications missing any of these elements will not be reviewed. Faculty and graduate students may only receive one travel award per academic year.

* If you are waiting to receive the official acceptance from the conference, please indicate the anticipated date on the form. If selected, the award will be given contingent upon the receipt of the official acceptance.

Conference Requirements

To receive funding under this competitive program, applicants must participate officially in the conference they attend and the conference must take place outside the United States. Official participation is defined as:

  1. presenting a paper/poster;
  2. serving as a discussant;
  3. participating on a panel or roundtable.

Your application must document these activities specifically with an invitation from the conference organizer or sponsoring organization.

Selection Preference

Preference will be given to proposals which:

  1. document commitment of funding from other institutional sources
  2. demonstrate a significant impact on the research and academic career of the applicant – particularly from those with little or no international experience.

Applications that have a clear potential to yield long-term ties between Drexel and scholars or educational institutions outside of the United States shall be given particularly positive consideration.
