Drexel University Health Partnerships in the Gambia
Dr. Shannon Márquez, Director of Global Public Health Initiatives, Dr. Fred Allen, Associate Director of Undergraduate Studies, Biomedical Engineering and Ms. Shirin Karsan, weServe Program Manager, are currently in The Gambia with 5 Drexel School of Public Health (SPH) students who travelled there earlier this summer to work on a number of public health projects related to maternal and child health, HIV/AIDS prevention & education, and chronic disease management. During their visit, Drexel representatives are meeting with University of the Gambia (UTG), the Ministry of Health & Welfare, and Sulayaman Junkung General Hospital (SJGH) and working to formalize our partnerships there.
The 5 public health students currently in The Gambia and numerous former weServe students have been based at SJGH where they have completed a number of projects related to health outcomes and biomedical engineering capacity building. Drexel is excited to continue to develop new programs and partnerships in The Gambia.
