Drexel Student Blogs from 2010 World Cup

Thirteen Drexel students are attending one of the biggest sporting events in the world, the FIFA World CupTM in South Africa. The students, accompanied by sport management professor Dr. Douglas Michele Turco, are conducting field surveys in order to evaluate tourism and the economic impact of the World Cup on the host cities.

The group is traveling in Cape Town, Durban and Upington over two weeks. During their time in South Africa, they will attend two World Cup matches, visit tourist spots, work with youth football programs and participate in a food parcel distribution in an underprivileged community. They will be working with students and faculty from the Centre for Tourism Research in Africa (CETRA), Cape Peninsula University of Technology, University of KwaZulu-Natal and the Youth and Sport Division for the city of Upington.

Laura Young, a senior communication major, is writing a daily blog for the group. The site was developed for her senior communication project, which coincided with the trip dates.
