Drexel Delegation visits universities in Israel.
President Chuck Pennoni and Provost Mark Greenberg recently led a Drexel Delegation to Israel for a working visit to a number of institutions of higher learning. The overarching goal of the trip was to strengthen newly established partnerships with a few key universities and explore other fruitful relationships with schools in the region. Committed to ensuring mutually beneficial partnerships, they saw information-sharing as a key component of their visit. The delegation focused on learning more about each other and highlighting complementary areas of expertise and varied avenues for research collaboration and student and faculty exchange.
The delegation included Dr. Kenny Simansky, Interim Vice Provost for Research and Vice Dean for Research at the College of Medicine (DUCOM); Dr. Barbara Schindler, Vice Dean for Education and Academic Affairs, DUCOM; Dr. Rahamim Seliktar, Vice Director of the School of Biomedical Engineering, Science, and Health Systems; Dr. Aleister Saunders, Associate Department Head of Biology; and Dr. Julie Mostov, Vice Provost for Global Initiatives. On the van and ready to roll everyday at 8:30 am in the morning, each member of the delegation worked with great enthusiasm to open avenues of communication and collaboration with our counterparts at the universities we visited.
The delegation met with administrators, faculty, and students at Technion (Israel Institute of Technology), Ben Gurion University, Hebrew University, and Al Quds University (East Jerusalem), and Hadassah College, connecting with colleagues already engaged in research collaboration with Drexel faculty and introducing Drexel to new colleagues and friends. In addition to traditional exchanges and research cooperation, the delegation generated excitement around possibilities for research co-ops, Engineers Without Borders projects, and translational research endeavors.
