On April 19th 2013, Drexel University participated in the Collective Day of Action, discussions held simultaneously at participating universities across the country. The event, "Universities for Immigration Reform," was hosted by the Office of International Programs. We were glad to be joined by Dr. Rachel Reynolds, Associate Professor of Communication, Shumi Muinde, Director of International Admissions, Michael Ryan, International Graduate Students Association, and immigration attorney William Stock, Esq, from Klasko, Rulon, Stock & Seltzer, LLP. The Office of International Programs' Dr. Julie Mostov, Vice Provost for Global Initiatives, moderated the event. Dr. Mostov and the rest of the panelists fielded questions from students and faculty concerning the process of immigration and its effects on our country, and particularly, our higher education system. Panelists discussed the overall subject: Why is immigration reform important for Drexel University? Attorney William Stock, Esq. and Shumi Muinde were able to field these questions and expand upon the legal changes that will be taking place concerning international visas. The short time we met brought up new ways of approaching reform and left many of the participants eager to continue discussions through email and other events. Appropriately, the Office of International Programs held their quarterly Cross Country Conversation the following Monday and similar themes could be seen the Becoming American event.
