In 2007, a minimum of 1,252 people were executed in 24 countries and at least 3,347 people were sentenced to death in over 50 countries. Just five countries - China, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and the USA - carried out the overwhelming majority (88%) of known executions in the world last year.
One of the first things that President Obama did when he took office in January 2009, was to publicly state that the US does not accept torture and would be closing the Guantanamo Bay prison. What do students from across the globe think about these two controversial topics? Let’s take a look at these issues - capital punishment and torture - engaging Drexel students from the US and other countries in an open discussion..
