Job Description
Position Title:
Assistant Vice President, College of Medicine Development
Reports to: Senior Associate Vice President, College of Medicine Development
Job Classification: Professional/Administrative
Basic Function:
The Assistant Vice President, College of Medicine Development is a member of the Institutional Advancement team assigned to develop philanthropic resources for CoM. This position will play a central role in major gift fund raising and contribute to the enhancement of annual support. He or she will also engage in corporate and foundation fund raising as directed by the Senior Associate Vice President, College of Medicine Development and in coordination with the Corporate and Foundation Relations Department in Institutional Advancement. He or she reports to Senior Associate Vice President, College of Medicine Development (hereafter, the “Senior Associate Vice President”) and has a secondary reporting relationship to the Dean of the College of Medicine. This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Detail:
- Secures major and planned gifts and develops future major donors by pursuing the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, recognition, and stewardship of private support from individuals, corporations, and foundations for the College of Medicine (CoM).
- Manages a dynamic portfolio of 150 or more prospects and suspects who are believed capable of making commitments of $25,000 or more, based on giving patterns, prospect research, and other indicators. This portfolio will evolve steadily as prospects/suspects are brought to closure, referred to other development officers, or dropped from the portfolio for lack of potential or inclination.
- Maintains an active schedule of face-to-face meetings with major gift suspects and prospects, averaging fifteen (15) or more such meetings per month.
- Supports the corporate and foundation development program for CoM, as directed by the Senior Associate Vice President and in cooperation with the Associate Vice President of Corporate and Foundation Relations and the Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations.
- Assists the Senior Associate Vice President in the analysis, formation, and implementation of fund-raising plans, policies and procedures as they pertain to CoM’s development program.
- Assists the Senior Associate Vice President in identifying and working with key volunteers to establish and strengthen advisory boards for the College of Medicine.
- Assists the Senior Associate Vice President and the Director of CoM Alumni Relations in fostering alumni activities that contribute to a culture of philanthropy in the college.
- Stewards donors through ongoing communications, recognition activities, invitations to key events, and interaction with beneficiaries of their support.
- Promotes University priorities and image to constituents. Serves as front line staff to promote campus goals and objectives. Maintains current knowledge of university-wide institutional priorities. As appropriate, and with the knowledge of the Senior Associate Vice President, qualifies, cultivates and solicits prospects on behalf of other campus units.
- Adheres to performance goals and standards for Development Officers as specified under Office of Institutional Advancement guidelines. Any changes during employment to these guidelines will be disseminated in a timely manner.
- Follows Institutional Advancement procedures with regard to prospect management and documenting contacts. Responsible for oversight and submission of all relative fund raising reports, statistics, projections and publications.

Qualifications :
- Five or more years’ experience in fundraising in a development program, preferably with an educational institution.
- Familiarity with planned giving concepts and experience in securing planned gifts preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree is preferred. Course work in subjects relevant to Medicine is a plus.
- Ability and willingness to travel on a frequent basis required.
- Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends required.
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills required.
- Excellent administrative skills required.
- Previous experience working with senior-level executives preferred.
- Knowledge of prospect management systems preferred.
- Knowledge of database fundraising software CS Advance preferred.
- Web fundraising experience a plus.

Supervision and Evaluation :
The Assistant Vice President, College of Medicine Development reports to the Senior Associate Vice President, College of Medicine Development and has a secondary reporting relationship to the Dean of the College of Medicine. Performance evaluations will be prepared by the Senior Associate Vice President in consultation with the Dean.
