Independence Blue Cross Partners with the College of Medicine on Simulation Center

The longtime partnership of Independence Blue Cross (IBC) and Drexel University is based on the mutual goal of enriching the lives of Pennsylvanians through better health practices. So when Drexel University College of Medicine (DCOM) developed a five year strategic plan for enhancing medical education to improve the quality of health care delivery, IBC pledged $2.5 million to establish the Independence Blue Cross Medical Education Simulation Center at Drexel University College of Medicine. Considering the proposed depth and breadth of its simulation technologies, as well as the knowledge and experience of those involved in its development and operation, the new medical education simulation center is expected to be among the most innovative simulation facilities in the nation.

Independence Blue Cross, the region’s leading health insurance company, serves 1.6 million Philadelphia area residents. The Independence Blue Cross Medical Education Simulation Center will focus on clinical training with the overall objective of increased patient safety. The center and its programs will serve several thousand medical students, residents, and physicians affiliated with Drexel University College of Medicine through its 21 academic campuses in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, as well as other institutions in the region.
