University Enters Affinity Card Partnership with U.S. Bank
Drexel has entered into an affinity credit card partnership with U.S. Bank. The multiyear agreement will generate revenue for the University each time a card is activated and every time a card is used. The credit cards will be available to students, faculty, staff and alumni through the University's Web site and will help support campus facilities and scholarships. Cardholders will have access to a variety of U.S. Bank's Drexel-themed cards, including one that earns users points that can be redeemed for gift certificates, merchandise, cash and travel rewards. In Memoriam: Trustee Emeritus Mario V. Mascioli '45
Mr. Mascioli, chairman of The Edmar Abrasive Company, graduated in 1945 with a B.S. in mechanical engineering. He actively served his alma mater with dedication and distinction for almost 35 years. Mr. Mascioli was a member of the Board of Governors of the Alumni Association, serving as chairman and a governor emeritus. He served on the Drexel Board of Trustees from 1981, as an associate trustee, term trustee, and trustee emeritus. More

Fraternity is Praised by Historical Society
Drexel University 's Lambda Chi Alpha chapter was congratulated by the University City Historical Society upon completion of a $60,000 renovation of a historic stone wall and arch located on the fraternity's property. The 35 foot wall and arch were constructed in 1886 and, under the watchful eye of the Philadelphia Historical Commission, were restored to a perfect match of their original state.
Toy Drive Benefits Thousands of Philadelphia Children
The University's Eighth Annual Holiday Toy Drive came to a close with the distribution ceremony in the Main Building 's Great Court on December 21. Community groups, civic leaders, University staff and students joined President Papadakis, pictured to the left, accompanied by State Representative James Roebuck, Santa and Mario the Magnificent at the celebration. Almost 4,000 toys were collected, donated and wrapped by members of the Drexel community. The event sponsored and coordinated by the Office of Government and Community Relations, benefited more than 25 community groups, housing associations and shelters in Philadelphia.
Dental Care Services Offered at Health Services Center
The Eleventh Street Family Health Services, operated by the College of Nursing and Health Professions now offers dental care services, under the direction of Dr. Frank Torrisi. The Center's dental program is designed to promote the integration of oral health with other services to enhance general health and well-being. The strong correlation between dental health and general health has been well documented specifically the link between periodontal disease and pre-term births and low birth weight babies, and glycemic control in diabetics. The demand for services has been overwhelming.
Mejia Leads Men's Basketball Past Hofstra in Overtime, 84-81
Hempstead, N.Y. - Dominick Mejia (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern), pictured to the left, hit a 3-pointer in regulation to tie the game and scored what proved to be the game-winning basket in overtime as Drexel defeated Hofstra, 84-81. Mejia drove to the basket and scored on a lay-up with 1:02 to play in overtime and Hofstra missed a jump shot and a put back in the final seconds to give Drexel (5-6, 1-2 CAA) its first conference win of the season. 2004 Turkey Project
Alumni, students, staff, and faculty were among the many volunteers who took part in the 2004 Annual Turkey Project distribution on December 16. University groups including Lambda Chi Fraternity, pictured to the left with Greek advisor John McGarrigle
'69, MBA '73, and Drexel's wrestling team were eager to help. It was a record breaking year for the event with over 2,000 turkeys given to 36 local Philadelphia organizations. Agency participants lined up on Market Street and at the Eleventh Street Family Health Services Center to receive their order of turkeys to be given to the families in need for the holiday season.
Annual Alumni Holiday Reception
Alumni and friends gathered on December 2 to welcome in the holiday season at the Annual Alumni Holiday Reception. Guests enjoyed a scrumptious holiday buffet and shared stories, laughter and some holiday spirit at the Philadelphia Marriott West in Conshohocken , PA. The evening featured entertainment by "Scrooge Unplugged", a comedy group, pictured to the left, accompanied by Ellie Cantor PhD, '79, MCP and Ellie Brown MS, '67, PhD, '71. The group performed a humorous abridged version of the holiday classic A Christmas Carol for all of the attendees. Alumni also participated in a raffle for prizes such as wine baskets and box seats to the Philadelphia 76ers.

Memorial Service for President Emeritus Harold Myers
The Drexel community celebrated the life of Drexel President Emeritus Harold M. Myers '38 , Hon. '83 at a memorial service on December 14 in the Westphal Picture Gallery. Dr. Myers died at the age of 89 on October 15 in Sarasota, Fla.
Chairman of the Board of Trustees Joseph Jacovini welcomed alumni, trustees, faculty and staff attending the service. President Constantine Papadakis spoke about Dr. Myers' vision for Drexel and how his leadership as an administrator and trustee influenced all facets of University life.
Guest speakers included Dr. Arthur Shostak, professor emeritus of culture and communication and Dr. Richard E. Woodring '54, professor and emeritus dean of the College of Engineering , who spoke on behalf of the faculty. Alumni speakers sharing personal stories of Dr. Myers were Trustee George M. Ross '55, Hon '99 and Daniel Promislo '55.
Among the attendees were members of Dr. Myers' family (pictured to the left): daughter Deborah Myers Collier and son Donald S. Myers '73, who spoke on behalf of the family. Also pictured are Dr. Myers' son-in-law John Collier, and grandchildren, Brandon, Spencer and Wesley Collier.
Dr. Myers' work at Drexel spanned five decades and included his service as interim president from 1987-88. Dr. Myers received the Alumni Association's A.J. Drexel Paul Award in 1988 and was inducted into The Drexel 100 in 1992 for his professional accomplishments, public service and philanthropic activities.
Blue and Gold Days 2005
Planning for Blue & Gold Days is well underway for festivities during our "Alumni All Star Special" scheduled for April 29 & 30th. This year we are celebrating special reunions for the graduating classes of 1955 (Golden Dragon), 1960, 1965, 1970, 1975, and 1980 (Silver Dragon), 1985, 1990, 1995, and 2000. College of Medicine Introduces E-Mentoring Program
The College of Medicine recently announced a mentoring initiative to connect students and alumnae/i by email. The program will commence this month and will provide a way for students to correspond with alumni about career issues, shadowing experiences and life as scientists and physicians. Drexel University Alumni Visit NASA
On December 10 the officers and Alumni Ambassadors from Alumni Club of Houston were invited to a special "behind the scenes" visit to the NASA Johnson Space Center . The group met with fellow alumnus Christopher Ferguson '84 CoE who expects to pilot the next NASA mission to the space station as well as event host NASA Director Frank Benz. The event consisted of tours of Mission Control, the Apollo Era Mission Operations Control Room, demonstrations on NANO-technology and a technical briefing on NASA's Robonaut Project. Alumni Club of Philadelphia Hosts Drexel Alumni at the Dali Exhibition
On Saturday, February 26, 2005, the Alumni Club of Philadelphia will provide alumni with an opportunity to see the highly acclaimed Dali Exhibit at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
