Constantine Papadakis Integrated Sciences Building
A Message from Dr. Jeffery L. Twiss
“The Constantine Papadakis Integrated
Sciences Building will advance Drexel’s
Department of Biology into a national leader
for biology education and research. We are
now well beyond the point where existing
infrastructure can support our mission.
In spite of this limitation, we have made
significant strides on both education and
research fronts. The biology faculty have
developed novel approaches to enrich our
students’ educational experiences and they
have made key advances in research. Our
faculty and students are capable of achieving
much more, but limited resources with our
current facilities have restricted us from
realizing our full potential. The Integrated
Sciences Building will provide a unique facility
to unite the educational and research missions
of the department. It will enable us to more
directly engage undergraduate and graduate
students in novel learning environments and
will bring our faculty together with students
for collaborative approaches to tackle research
questions. Recruitment of new faculty to
the department over the next five years will
strategically advance Biology’s research programs to a level that will rival the nations’
top-tier institutions. With the new facilities
and growth in the faculty made possible by
the Integrated Sciences Building, students will
have the opportunity to work with faculty in
our research laboratories, answering questions
ranging from how individual genes cause
disease to how disruption of an ecosystem can
threaten an entire species.
| The Integrated Sciences Building will provide a unique facility to unite the educational and research missions of the department |
The building itself will be used as a
collaborative research tool to understand how
the ecosystem within its Biowall can function
as a filtration system. With the central role that
biology plays in the sciences and the growth
trajectory of Drexel’s Biology Department, the
Constantine Papadakis Integrated Sciences
Building will become a nucleus for integrating
life science research across Drexel campuses. ”
