Constantine Papadakis Integrated Sciences Building
A Bold Step Forward in Science Education
and Research
Drexel University’s stature as a comprehensive
research institution will take a bold step
forward with the opening of the Constantine
Papadakis Integrated Sciences Building.
Designed by world-renowned architects
Diamond + Schmitt, the building will be
located at the corner of 33rd and Chestnut
Streets. The $69.5 million structure, scheduled
to open in Fall 2011, will be the new gateway
to the University’s academic core, promoting
and leveraging the University’s growth and
engagement in scientific education and
research. The educational activities taking
place in this facility will not only contribute
to Drexel’s advancement, they will also be a
key contributor to the region’s growth and
leadership in the biotech and life sciences
industries. In addition, the Papadakis
Integrated Sciences Building will become
a frequent site for international conferences
on environmental sustainability and
biological research.
Specific goals for this new campus landmark
include:
- Enhance and expand the fabric of
the student laboratory and classroom
experience, providing students with an
academically rich educational experience
that will prepare them to be tomorrow’s
leaders within the biotech and life
science sectors;
- Substantially expand Drexel’s institutional
capacity to attract research funding to both
the University and the Philadelphia region;
- Develop a more rounded and balanced
educational environment, dramatically
increasing Drexel’s ability to recruit the
finest students and faculty, on a national
and global level;
- Foster the highest level of academic
discussion and engagement, by motivating
and energizing Drexel faculty and students
to examine issues on both a theoretical and
practical level, in a manner that can help to
produce future breakthroughs in science.
