Sport Management Faculty Member Introduces Middle School Students to Rowing
May 28, 2014
Amy Giddings, PhD, an assistant professor in the Sport Management program hosted a group of middle school students at Bachelors Barge Club on Boathouse Row on Tuesday, May 27 to introduce them to the sport of rowing.
The students, 8th graders from the Mother of Consolation Parish School in the Chestnut Hill section of Philadelphia, visited the Bachelors Barge Club, home to Drexel University's rowing programs, to learn about the sport of rowing from members of the Conestoga Crew Club.
The event, in its second year, has been held as a part of the school's fundraising efforts. Parents of the middle school students donated $1,200 to the school and Dr. Giddings and her team of volunteers donate their time and resources to make the event a success.
The students were able to experience a very cost-prohibitive sport in a fun environment. The event was made possible by Drexel Athletics and the Bachelors Barge Club who generously allow the use of their equipment to support this event.
