Desk Assistant Job Description |

JOB
OVERVIEW:
The Desk Assistant (DA) is a student staff member employed
by the Office of Residential Living The DA is responsible
for assisting the Desk Service Representative, Residence
Hall Receptionist and Assistant Director/Resident Director
(AD/RD) in the effective administration of the residence
hall. This is accomplished through working at the residence
hall Front Desk and performing related tasks as assigned
by the full-time staff. Desk Assistants are expected to
work a minimum of (5) five hours per week.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Desk Assistants are the receptionists for the residence
hall and in that capacity should:
· Monitor and control entry and exit from the building
via the ID access system.
· Be alert at all times while on-duty.
· Be on time for all desk shifts.
· Notify the RA on-duty, AD/RD, or Public Safety
of suspicious activities or policy violations as the situation
dictates.
· Make a conscious effort to be courteous and helpful,
including telephone interactions. Take complete messages
(including time and date) in a
professional manner.
· Offer assistance to people who appear to be unfamiliar
with the building.
· Keep the Front Desk area neat and clean especially
on weekends when the regular housekeeping staff is not
available.
· Know and follow policies and procedures regarding
keys in the individual buildings.
· Be familiar with and enforce the Guest Registration
Policy.
· Make every effort to work in a cooperative fashion
with University security officers, students, and Residence
Life staff.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE:
· Be a student in good standing; maintaining a
2.00 GPA throughout the period of service as a DA. Failure
to uphold this academic standard will lead to dismissal
from the position.
· Have demonstrated ability to relate well to people.
· Demonstrate good clerical and communication skills.
· Have a flexible schedule to be available for
desk hours when needed (i.e., weekends, finals week, openings
and closings, etc.) |
