2008 Doctoral Hood Ceremony
Update
The location of the Hood Ceremony has been changed. The ceremony will now take place in the Mandell Theater at the corner of 33rd and Chestnut Streets (see a Campus Map). The reception will follow next door in the Grand Hall of the Creese Student Center. This change was made to better accommodate the unexpectedly large number of attendees. Please arrive early and fill in all seats in the theater so that as many guests as possible will be able to sit; there likely will be standing room only for later arrivals.
This year's Doctoral Hood Ceremony is being held on Friday, June 13th beginning at 4pm. This event honors graduating doctoral students and celebrates the special relationship they have with their supervising professors. Graduates will be called to the stage with their mentors, who will present them with the hood to be worn at graduation the next day. The hoods are graduation gifts from the Office of Graduate Studies. Graduation awards will be given out during the ceremony. Afterward, graduates and their guests are invited to stay for a cocktail reception. Attire is dress casual, academic regalia is not necessary.
Invitations were sent to graduating students; RSVPs are requested by Friday, June 6. No tickets are required, just notification of the number of guests attending. Students are reminded to invite their supervising professors (or a stand-in if the mentor is unavailable) to attend with them. All attendes are urged to arrive early so that you can be in your seats and the cermony can begin promptly at 4pm.
