New Incoming Student Guide
Welcome to Drexel University. This guide will provide you with a step by step tutorial on things to do prior to attending your first class and beginning your graduate program.
I’ve been accepted to a graduate program at Drexel University. What do I do next?
Step 1 - Complete and Submit your Intent to Enroll Form
After receiving your acceptance letter, you will need to complete and submit an Intent to Enroll Form. This form should be enclosed with your acceptance letter from the university. After you submit this form, the university then downloads your information in our database which will allow you to start the process of activating your accounts in the university. Once you have been admitted, you can contact Graduate Admissions at 215-895-6700 to obtain this form.
Step 2 - Activate your accounts
The university provides you with electronic accounts. In this section, you will activate your email account and Bannerweb account. Bannerweb is a web tool that allows you to register for classes, view your schedule, access and update all personal information, track financial aid, view and pay tuition, and view academic records. Be sure to have a pen and paper ready to copy down your student ID number, your email address and your passwords. To view instructions for setting up your accounts, visit Activate Accounts. If you have problems activating your new accounts call 215-895-2698.
After you have activated your accounts you will have a user-ID and password for your DrexelOne portal account, your @drexel.edu email account and your Drexel Domain account. These accounts usually have the same user-ID and can, if you synchronize them, have the same password. DrexelOne is your single portal for access to many Drexel electronic services including web-based email, BannerWeb administrative services, an online calendar, WebCT online courses, and campus announcements and news.
Step 3 - Register for Courses
Prior to registering for courses, you should contact your graduate advisor or department to get your curricular requirements and advice on your initial coursework. Find your program advisor's name and contact information in the Graduate Advisors List. You can also view program requirements in the Graduate Catalog. Once you have contacted your department and received your course requirements, you can check course offerings to view course availability and plan your schedule.
Bannerweb is the web-based product that allows you to register for courses. This product also allows you to update personal data, view transcripts, tuition accounts and financial aid information. You gain access to Bannerweb and email accounts via the DrexelOne portal.
Once you have logged into DrexelOne, click on Student Services and you will then click on through this series of subjects:
- Banner services
- Bannerweb
- Student Services and Financial Aid
- Registration
- Add/Drop Classes
Once you get to the last screen you will be prompted for the term in which you wish to enroll. Proceed with registration prompts and schedule your classes.
After you have registered for courses, you should check your schedule in Bannerweb to insure its accuracy. Your schedule will also provide you with detailed information regarding class meeting times and locations. Check the Campus Map to identify where your courses will be held.
To register in the future or for more details now, view a comprehensive guide to registration. In this guide you can see time tickets for registration for current and future terms and registration FAQs.
Drexel operates on a quarter systems, which means we have four quarters per year: Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer. Each quarter consists of 10 weeks of instruction. To see when classes begin and to plan for future terms you can view the university's Academic Calendar.
Please note that graduate students can withdraw from classes only through the end of the sixth week of the quarter. For graduate students enrolled in accelerated courses (which normally last five weeks), students may withdraw from the second through the fifth week, prior to the final examination. Tuition is prorated depending on the effective date of your withdraw. Contact the Bursar's Office for specific refund information.
Step 4 - Obtain your Student Identification Card
Drexel's student identification card is known as the DragonCard. It is the official Drexel University identification card for students, faculty and staff. It also functions as a pre-paid card for cashless purchases. The DragonCard provides easy access to residence halls, the library, the computer center and other campus buildings and serves as the tool to access all dining service meal plans on campus.
The DragonCard has a stored value feature that allows student to pre-deposit funds which can be used at the University Bookstore, all Dining Services locations, and over one dozen area restaurants and retailers. This feature of the DragonCard offers a safe and convenient alternative to cash.
