Faculty Highlights

As active professionals in the sport industry, our full-time and adjunct faculty members bring a wealth of past and current experience to the classroom.  With an expert and knowledgeable academic and practitioner-based faculty, you’ll be learning from those who not only know the score but how to play the game. Theories and concepts will take on new meaning when learned from instructors who have spent time putting them into practice.

FULL TIME FACULTY

David P. O'Brien, J.D. , (Program Director) brings to Drexel 16 years of experience as a Division I college athletics director. Prior to entering athletic administration, Mr. O’Brien served in a variety of roles in higher education, and also served on the legislative staff of the New Jersey Senate and practiced law.

Amy Giddings, PhD. , is currently completing her Ph.D. and has worked in many areas of sport management over the last decade.  Her sport management work experiences encompass the Olympic Games, community recreation, collegiate recreation and intercollegiate athletics, coaching, and non-profit sport organizations.

Brett Burchette, M.Ed. ,  entered the full-time faculty of Drexel Sport Management with 10 years of experience working in higher education as an athletics administrator, corporate sales representative, development director coach and adjunct instructor.  His areas of expertise include fundraising, marketing/promotions, corporate sales, television/radio agreements, ticketing, merchandising and licensing.

Douglas M. Turco, PH.D. ,  came to Drexel with several years of sport and tourism teaching experience in higher education.   His interests lie in sport tourism research, economic impact of sport, sport sponsorship research and mega-events and he has authored more than 40 research articles in journals and authored several books on these areas of study.  An avid traveler, he has also presented research at conference all over the world including, Canada, South Korea, South Africa, Taiwan, Germany, Cyprus, Spain, Poland, Hungary and Portugal.
