Pre-Professional Programs

The Goodwin College’s General Studies B.S. degree is one of Drexel’s best choices for students planning to pursue graduate studies in professional areas. Each concentration offers at the same time flexibility and the necessary foundations for specialized professional careers.

The Physical Science Concentration provides excellent preparation for medical, dental, pharmacy, and veterinary school. The concentration includes a solid foundation in biology, chemistry, and physics and also offers room for students to choose science electives based on their unique educational requirements.

The Liberal Studies Concentration is the choice for students seeking preparation towards law school. Although there is no recommended “pre-law” major, according to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, “prospective lawyers should develop proficiency in writing and speaking, reading, researching, analyzing, and thinking logically—skills needed to succeed both in law school and in the profession. Regardless of major, a multidisciplinary background is recommended. Courses in English, foreign languages, public speaking, government, philosophy, history, economics, mathematics, and computer science, among others, are useful.” Furthermore, according to the American Bar Association, “taking a broad range of difficult courses from demanding instructors is excellent preparation for legal education.”

The Individualized Studies Concentration is another fine option for future law students.  Its main feature is that it provides flexibility in choosing electives related to the area in which prospective lawyers want to specialize. For example, prospective patent lawyers need a strong background in engineering or science, and future tax lawyers must have extensive knowledge of accounting.
